EDFL B Grade – Round 15… From EDFL site
WITH four games to go, the race to the B Grade finals just gets murkier.
14 points separate second from seventh, creating a real logjam for spots in the top five.
It makes this round a real corker.
In seventh is Hadfield which – despite being two games out of the finals spots – won’t be giving up the ghost until it’s mathematically impossible.
But the Hawks’ chances will take an all-but fatal hit should they lose to Pascoe Vale today.
Hadfield clicked into gear against Moonee Valley courtesy of a rev-up from coach Robert Don, but his side can’t afford to start poorly against the Panthers.
One spot above the Hawks is Airport West, which would fancy its chances of keeping the above sides under pressure today with a trip to Moonee Valley.
The undermanned Valley – led by stalwart Troy Whillance – put up an early fight against Hadfield before being swamped.
But the Eagles will be desperate to bounce back after losing to Taylors Lakes last week.
Keilor Park sits just inside the top five, and will be keen to strengthen its position with a win against Sydenham-Hillside today.
Keilor Park can finish as high as second. But the Sharks will be full of confidence after smashing Jacana in Round 14, with Ross Weightman booted eight goals in a best-afield game.
Above the Devils is Tullamarine, which faces the sternest of tests against Oak Park today.
The Demons can ill-afford to drop a game with the teams below them hot on their hammer, but they’ll need more heroics from Jason Kelly and Marcus Smith to knock off the all-conquering Kangaroos on their home turf.
Taylors Lakes hosts Westmeadows and should prevail, with Chris Ragusa and Chris Monaco key in holding off Airport West last week.
Two games without influence on the finals races are Northern Saints’ clash with East Keilor and Roxburgh Park’s trip to Jacana.
But while finals have long since exited the thinking of the four clubs, there will still be plenty to play for today.
Northern Saints can push away from cellar-dweller East Keilor, which in turn must be desperate for only its second win this season.
And Roxburgh Park might have the inside running against the Jaguars, particularly given its Matthew Patane-led win over the Saints last time out.
Tips: Northern Saints, Oak Park, Roxburgh Park, Keilor Park, Airport West, Pascoe Vale, Taylors Lakes.
