From the President
The 2009 season has now started after a really big pre-season for the club on and off the field.
On the field, there were new players signed to club for both the Seniors and Reserves grades which was fantastic for the club.
Paul Koulouriotis, Mark Zucco and Steven Gamble all back to the club. With Jordan Garita, Robbie Doughty, Johnnie Green, Adam Harrap and Craig Burns all new players to the club for the first time. All these new players have fitted in like a glove and will all be great assets for the club during the year.
Jason Ward and Mark Zucco have added some extra dimensions to the coaching structure and have shown great professionalism in supporting Marcus Barclay during the first 3 rounds.
Scottie Kempster and Joe Zucco continue to provide great support as per 2008. George Abboud and his assistant Salv Castello are doing a great job with the reserves who are 2 and 1 (could easily be 3 zip). The great numbers in the seniors this year means that up to 10 players can miss some weeks; George and Salv have a tough task in rotating players each week.
Marcus Barclay is in year 2 of his coaching career and has done a great job in the pre-season to put together a great list of players for 2009 and as the season continues will reap these rewards.
Unfortunately in round 1 we came up against a very good side in Taylors Lakes; the positive is that the side can play a lot better than the 22 point loss. Good wins against East Keilor (Misiti/Calthorpe Cup) and Jacana has the seniors back on track in readiness for a big game this Sunday against Tullamarine.
Marcus Barclay, also organised (with Christian Gaylards help) a great night of training with the Senior players helping the Juniors at training. The junior players got some real benefit from the night and great initiative by Christian and Marcus.
The juniors have been working very hard to attract players to the club and are starting to see some good results including:
- Under 10′s winning 2 from 3 – Great Effort
- Under 12′s fielding a side this year (last year – no side).
- 20-25 Auskickers this year (last year 8-10)
- New Uniforms (Jackets, polo’s, jumpers, socks and shorts)
- The strong commitee is putting a lot of good things in place for the future.
I’d like to congratulate the juniors on their hard work and encourgage all to keep working hard during the tough year.
Lets keep the winning feeling going with the under 10′s and aim for more wins in 2009. If anyone can help with some players please call Rod Meyer or Ian Lane.
Off the field with the seniors; the club has been working very hard. The new socks and jumpers have been very successful and look fantastic.
Major Sponsors: Brimbank Automotive and Menz Club are advertised on the jumper; whilst Raytron is advertised on the shorts. We thank these major sponsors and all our sponsors for the great support in 2009.
Dish N Out the Dirt (edited by Joe Carland) has started and some player profiles (edited by Brent Cooper) will be completed during the year on the players. This can all be found on the web which is updated by Ben Thomas during the year. Thanks Ben for your great work.
A Mothers Day Sunday game planned for this week v Tullamarine will be a massive day for the club. The club will be going pink for the day in support of Breast Cancer; the club will be raising money on the day which will be donated to Breast Cancer Australia.
The club will also be holding a ladies luncheon and is looking for support on what promises to be a big day. Nicole Misiti is co-ordinating all functions and can be contacted if you are interested in attending the function.
Many more functions are planned during the year including:
- Sportsman Night (hope to have James Hird and other Sporting Stars)
- Reverse Raffle
- Annual Ball
- Plus more.
Lets keep working hard and have a big 2009.
PS: We are always looking for help with bar, canteen and jobs on Saturday.
Please call me if you can help.
